Liton seeks media support to take development works forward

RAJSHAHI, June 2, 2019 (BSS)- Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has sought all-out cooperation of the mass-media both print and electronics to the city’s development activities forward.

“We have adopted diversified programmes to make the city smart, habitable and environment-friendly. So, we need well-thought-out support and constructive criticism of the media persons,” he said while addressing a view-sharing meeting with journalists at the city Bhaban conference hall here yesterday.

Liton said the city corporation is pledged bound to reach civic services to all its population equally as per their requirement for the sake of overall development of the city.

“We are working relentlessly to bring all the citizens under the existing public services for their betterment,” he said adding that the RCC has adopted multisectoral development projects to infuse further more dynamism into its service delivery activities so that the city dwellers can derive total benefits of the services properly.

The city corporation is intended to supplement the government efforts of achieving the sustainable development goals within 2030, Liton mentioned.

Panel Mayors Shariful Islam Babu and Rajab Ali, Chief Executive Officer Shawgatul Islam, Secretary Rejaul Karim, Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque, Editor of Daily Sonali Sangbad Liakat Ali and Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbraul Hassan Millat also addressed the meeting.

Mayor Liton told the meeting that the city corporation has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Power China, a Chinese state-owned company, for multipurpose development of Rajshahi City under a master plan.

According to the contract, the Power China will formulate a master plan for the northern city focusing on eight major sectors within next three years.

He said Power China would build a permanent embankment on the bank of Padma River and construct recreational spots.

They would develop the city’s transport system and build elevated expressway, eco-park, metro rail and flyovers. They would also work for expansion of the airport and develop its infrastructure, he added.
