Pope Francis praises Romanian migrants’ ‘sacrifices’
BUCHAREST, May 31, 2019 (BSS/AFP) – Pope Francis on Friday praised the
“sacrifices” of millions of Romanians who have sought better opportunities
abroad.
“I pay homage to the sacrifices endured by so many sons and daughters of
Romania who… have enriched those countries to which they have emigrated,”
the pope said in a speech broadcast on national television on the first day
of his visit.
Since Romania joined the European Union in 2007, 16 percent of the 20
million population have emigrated to other EU nations.
