Metro rail to be opened on Dec 16, 2021: Quader

DHAKA, May 29, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul
Quader today said the metro rail service in the capital will be formally
launched on December 16, 2021, amid the celebrations of Bangladesh’s golden
jubilee of independence.

He disclosed the information after a meeting on the progress of the
project at its site office in the city’s Agargaon.

“Much of the work will be completed by December next year. And the service
will be fully inaugurated on December 16, 2021,” the minister said.

Construction work of the first phase of the Mass-Rapid Transport (MRT)
Line-6 project (Uttara to Agargaon) will be completed in December this year
as 40.58 percent work of 12-kiolomtere long first phase has already been
completed.

Construction of the second phase (Agargaon to Motijheel) is expected to be
completed by December 2020 as construction work of the country’s first
elevated metro rail system is going on in full swing.

“Some five-kilometre viaduct of the MRT Line-6 (Uttara to Agargaon) has
already become visible,” he added.

He said the government has also taken metro rail route-1 project to build
31 kilometers rail network in two parts.

In the first part the rail route will be from Bimanbandar to Kamlapur rail-
station and in the second part, it will be from Natun Bazar to Purbachal
Depot, Purbachal.
