Cultural heritage of ethnic minorities needs to be protected

RAJSHAHI, May 27, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a discussion opined that
collective efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned
can be the vital means of protecting the cultural heritage of the ethnic
minority people from further diminishing.

They also observed that all quarters should take the responsibility to
protect the cultural heritage of ethnic communities as their heritage and
resource are integral part of the society.

The observation came in a discussion meeting followed by a dance
competition and cultural function hosted by Rajshahi Divisional Ethnic
Minority Cultural Academy (RDEMCA) at its conference hall to mark the second
founding anniversary of Rahala Rimil Dance Group (RRDG) here yesterday
afternoon.

RRDG constituted with a large number of boys and girls from various ethnic
minority groups like Santal, Uraon, Munda, Mahali and Paharia living in
Rajshahi region has earned fame and dignity through performing modern dance
in country’s various places.

Chaired by RRDG President Sabitry Hembrom, the discussion was addressed,
among others, by Deputy Director of Local Government Division Md Salahuddin,
Vice-chairman of Paba Upazila Parishad Ashraful Haque, RDEMCA Research
Officer Benjamin Tudu and music instructors Manuel Soren and Kabir Ahmed and
RRDG General Secretary Proshanta Minj and its Adviser Subhash Chanda Hembrom.

Salahuddin said Rajshahi is a home of around 21 ethnic minority groups and
the academy has been working for promoting, protecting and fostering their
culture and heritage.

The academy has now been working for flourishing latent talents creating
scopes for children of ethnic groups to rejuvenate their traditional cultural
practices, he added.

He also said the academy is giving importance to protecting the culture of
ethnic groups from further degradation. The academy is successfully
implementing various programs to this end.

Later, the guests distributed prizes among the best performers in the dance
competition.
