Comprehensive efforts to cut urban poverty stressed

RANGPUR, May 26, 2019 (BSS) – Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa has stressed on comprehensive GO-NGO efforts for cutting urban poverty to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by leaving none behind.

Mostafa said this while distributing rickshaws among 112 extremely poor families of the city at a function held on Islampur Honumantola City Corporation High School ground on Saturday afternoon as the chief guest.

World Vision Bangladesh (WVB) under its Economic Development Programme for the Ultra Poor Families allocated the rickshaws for distribution among the extremely poor families for their poverty alleviation through income generating activities.

With Rangpur Area Programme Cluster Manager of WVB Stephen Halder Ruven in the chair, its Programme Manager Rani Rita Costa and Julian Biswas attended the function as special guests.

City Councilors of different wards, officials of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) and World Vision Bangladesh were present.

The WVB in association with RpCC has been implementing various programmes for enhancing incomes of poorer families, preserving child rights, health and nutrition services for mothers and children, hygienic sanitation, preventing school dropouts, maintaining cleanliness, eradication of child labour and preparing children of poorer families eligible for going to schools in the city.

The City Mayor called upon the beneficiary 112 poor families for making best use of the distributed rickshaws in enhancing incomes to improve their living standard for better future for their children.
