BGB-BSF to jointly curb cross-border crimes

RANGPUR, May 25, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at a battalion commander-level flag meeting today put emphasis on curbing cross border crimes jointly to maintain peace on common international borders.

“Initiated by the BSF side, the event was held inside India near boundary pillar No- 893/7S opposite to Singhimari border outpost of BGB in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat under jurisdiction of Rangpur BGB-61 battalion,” said a press release hare today.

The two and a half hour-long flag meeting was held among the officials of Rangpur BGB-61 battalion and Gopalpur BSF-47 battalion of Koochbehar district in West Bengal from 10.30 am to 1 pm in a very congenial and cooperative atmosphere.

Commanding Officer of Rangpur BGB battalion Lt Colonel Mohammad Shariful Islam led the 10-member BGB delegation.

Acting Commandant of the Gopalpur BSF battalion Shri Shudhank Raturi led his 10-member BSF delegation in the event.

The BGB and BSF officials discussed bilateral border issues like cross-border crimes, conducting joint patrols, firing on borders, exchange of information, drug trafficking, smuggling of cows and identification of smuggling routes and other issues.

Both sides agreed to conduct regular joint patrols for curbing all sorts of cross-border crimes like illegal intrusion, smuggling and trafficking of drugs to maintain peace and tranquility along the common international borders.

“The flag meeting was held in a very cordial, friendly and cooperative atmosphere between the two neighbouring border guards,” Lt Colonel Mohammad Shariful Islam told BSS after the flag meeting this afternoon.

Earlier, Acting Commandant of Gopalpur BSF-47 battalion Shri Shudhank Raturi welcomed his counterpart Lt Colonel Shariful Islam on arrival of the BGB delegation on the zero line of the common international border there.
