Bumper litchi production in Meherpur
MEHERPUR, May 24, 2019 (BSS) – Litchi is now flooded in local markets of
Meherpur as the district has witnessed bumper production of the delicious and
juicy fruit thanks to favorable environment and extending necessary supports
to growers.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Meherpur office sources said
395 hectares of land were brought under the litchi cultivation in the
district.
Bumper litchi production is also seen in homesteads… Alongside local
varieties of the litchi, hybrid China-3 variety was also cultivated in the
district, they added.
Growers are happy with very good production of BARI litchi-1, BARI litchi-
2 and Bari-3, an official of the DAE added.
Local growers said traders are purchasing these litchis from orchard in
different areas of Meherpur and they are sending the seasonal fruits to
different regions of the country, particularly in Dhaka city.
