Team Bangladesh is capable of beating any side in the world: Mashrafe

DHAKA, May 23, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, oozing with confidence, said that his side is capable of beating any side in the ICC Cricket World Cup, which starts on May 30.

Bangladesh will begin their campaign on June 2, taking on South Africa at the Kennington Oval as they are eying to seal the semifinal in the cricket’s biggest extravaganza.

Mashrafe, however, stressed upon the needs to start on winning note to gain the momentum.

“Cricket is a game of uncertainty and on your day you can beat anybody else,” Mashrafe said on Thursday in a captains press conference in London, in which all 10 captains of the World Cup participating teams were present.

“We are pretty much confident that we can beat anyone but you have to start on a winning note. It is important to gain the momentum from the very beginning.”

Bangladesh got necessary mental boost ahead of the World Cup by lifting the trophy of the tri-series tournament in Ireland. It was their first major trophy in a tournament involving three or more teams and they won it in grand style, staying unbeaten throughout the tournament.

What pleased Mashrafe was their bench strength as the players who were believed not to be the part of starting XI of Bangladesh in the cricket’s biggest carnival played unbelievably well.

Terming it is exciting for the team environment, Mashrafe said: “We got a great bunch of players. We have good backroom staffs. They played their part really well. The junior players stepped up when it mattered most. We have been playing really exciting cricket.”

“The tri-series win in Ireland gave us huge confidence. We played really well there. Now we are focusing on the first match in the World Cup against South Africa. Hopefully we will make a winning start.”
