TAXPAYERS-SPECIAL INITIATIVE
Spl initiative in next budget to increase no. of taxpayers
DHAKA, May 23, 2019 (BSS) – The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md
Mosharraf Hussain Bhuiyan today said that a special initiative would be there
in the next budget to significantly increase the number of taxpayers in the
country over the next one year.
Talking to BSS, Mosharraf said the number of E-TIN holders in the country
is 40 lakh, but out of them only 15 lakh E-TIN holders pay tax.
“So, a special working strategy will be adopted to find out the capable E-
TIN holders who are now not paying taxes. Besides, effective measures will be
taken to bring new taxpayers in the tax net,” he said.
The NBR Chairman also said that these issues would be highlighted in the
next budget speech of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
He said to materialize this special plan, the NBR is also planning to
appoint some 10,000 manpower through outsourcing, side by side works would
start in full swing to set up tax offices at district and upazila level.
The immediate past Finance Minister AMA Muhith in his budget speech for
FY19 announced to raise the number of taxpayers in the country to 1.80 crore
over the next five years.
The NBR Chairman said to materialize this vision of the government, the
Board has determined an effective and innovative working strategy so that the
number of taxpayers is increased besides revenue generation.
“With this initiative, the capable citizens will be easily brought under
the tax net,” Mosharraf said, adding that tax fair would be held at upazila
level from next year alongside the divisional and district level to increase
the number of regular taxpayers.
