Forging social resistance against cyber crimes stressed

RAJSHAHI, May 23, 2019 (BSS)- Forging social resistance side by side with creating awareness among the parents and other guardians concerned against cyber-crimes has become an urgent need to protect the young generation from the dire consequences of the crimes.

Concerted efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned including the media both print and electronics can also be the effective means of freeing the society from cyber-crimes as a whole.

Present government has adopted various time-fitting measures to end cyber crimes. So, all the government and private entities concerned should come forward and work together to supplement the government endeavor.

The observation came at a view-sharing meeting with local government representatives and local administration styled “Prevention of Sexual Harassment through abuse of Internet and Tourism against Children” in Charghat Upazila Parishad Complex Hall room in the district yesterday afternoon.

Association for Community Development (ACD), a rights-based development organization, hosted the meeting at its conference hall in association with ‘Sexual Exploitation of Children Online and travel tourism Project’.

Chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazmul Haque, the meeting was addressed by Upazila Chairman Fakhrul Islam and Vice-chairman Tazmira Khatun as chief and special guests respectively.

Officer-in-Charge of Charghat Model Police Station Nazrul Islam, Union Parishad Chairman Shafiul Alam, Social Service Officer Mofiz Uddin, Youth Development Officer Mukhlesur Rahman and ACD Project Coordinator Mostofa Kamal also spoke on the occasion.

During his keynote presentation, Ali Hossain, Programme Manager of ACD, said cyber-crimes cover many offenses. He mentioned that cyber-crimes is the unlawful act wherein the computer information technology is used either as a tool or a target or both. He underscored the need for taking preventive measures against those involved in cybercrimes to rein in the growing menace.

Awareness should be raised among people about cyber crimes, related laws and punishment, he said adding that relevant professionals, experts and the mass media could play a responsible role in this regard.

In his remarks, Upazila Chairman Fakhrul Islam says ensuring best uses of internet and social communication media can be the vital means of preventing cyber-crimes.

He underscored the need for creating awareness among cross-section of people about the dire consequences of cyber-crimes and media can play vital role to this end.

“With the advancement of information technology, the nature and rate of cyber crimes are increasing. Accordingly, the cyber criminals are also being brought to justice,” he added.

He also urged the facebook users to remain alert during using the social media.

UNO Nazmul Haque mentioned internet is undoubtedly the most crucial technology of the modern world, the useful applications of it have not only made the public life easier than ever before, it also plays a very important role in education, entertainment and business.

He, however, opined that the technology has its negative aspects too. It has ushered in a vast world for criminals in society. The biggest threat of the internet is security risk.

He also observed that enhancing digital literacy and strong monitoring of social media mechanism has become an urgent need to combat cyber-crimes and propaganda everywhere in the society.
