Japanese embassy honours DU Prof Mahmudul
DHAKA, May 21, 2019 (BSS) – Japanese embassy in Bangladesh honoured Mahmudul Haque, honourary professor of Dhaka University (DU) by conferring him with “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon”.
The conferral is in recognition of his great contribution to strengthening cultural exchange through promoting modern art both in Japan and Bangladesh, said a press release from Japanese embassy today.
Mr. Haque studied print making in University of Tsukuba, Japan on a Japanese government-scholarship from 1981 to 1984. He taught the art of block printing and the essence of Japanese art he had learnt in Japan, to more than 2,000 Bangladeshi students at the Faculty of Fine Art of DU, the release added.
He was the Director of Institute of Fine Arts of DU from 1998 to 2000. From 2004 to 2006, he also made great contribution in enhancing cultural interaction between Japan and Bangladesh as the Director General of the Bangladesh National Museum, introducing a number of cultural exhibitions and seminars related to Japan.
