Stocks maintain downtrend as major sector dip

DHAKA, May 21, 2019 (BSS) – Both the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges
were down today further due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

The major falling sectors were bank and insurance. A total of 172
securities of the large-cap group incurred losses due to lower activities.

The major DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with
39.29 points down at 5,236.85. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also
followed the same trend with 10.58 points down at 1,822.78 and with 3.93
points down at 1,195.23.

Out of 347 traded issues, 217 incurred loss when 87 closed with some
gains. Most of the losing issues were from large-cap securities.

The day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 351.70 crore from Monday’s
Taka 387.73 crore and the daily trade also fell to 10.84 crore shares from
13.19 crore shares of the previous session.

The major gaining issues were Global Insurance, ECABLES, Shepherd, Central
Insurance and BSCCL. The major losing issues were Uttara Bank, Exim Bank,
Dutch Bangla Bank, Phenix Insurance and VAMLBDMF1.

Runner Auto topped the turnover list followed by Fortune Shoes, SKTRIMS,
BSCCL and Brac Bank. Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished the
session in red with major CASPI index closing 95 points down at 16,007.95.

In CSE, out of the traded 238 issues, 66 advanced, 141 incurred loss and
31 remained static when 1.67 crore shares worth Taka 36.04 crore changed
hands.
