Sharif for bringing women into mainstream of economy

DHAKA, May 21, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Social Welfare Sharif Ahmed today said the country’s women must be brought into the mainstream of the economy.

“Women must be made job-oriented to accelerate the country’s economy. All should come forward to create employment opportunities for women,” he said while speaking an award giving ceremony at the National Press Club here today.

Nari Unnayan Shakti (NUS) organized the programme where seven journalists were awarded for their reporting on women issues.

Sharif stressed the need for ensuring suitable environment so the women can work at their workplaces and return home safely.

He said it is quite impossible to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh keeping behind women, who are half of the country’s total population.

Noting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very sincere about women empowerment, the state minister said the government is considering amending laws to ensure equal rights of both men and women in their parental properties.

Chaired by NUS Executive Directive Dr Afroza Parveen, the programme was addressed by UNB Editor Mahfuzur Rahman and Director of Operation and Marketing of Americal International Hospital Ltd Dr Sultan Muhammad Razzak as special guests.
