BNP nominee Rumeen submits nomination for reserved seat

DHAKA, May 20, 2019 (BSS) – BNP nominee Barrister Rumeen Farhana today
submitted her nomination paper for the reserved seat for women in the 11th
Jatiya Sangsad.

She submitted her nomination paper to Returning Officer Md Abul Kashem at
the Election Commission this afternoon.

Farhana is expected to be elected unopposed as she was a sole candidate
for the reserved seat for woman from BNP on the last day for submission of
nomination papers today.

Abul Kashem said scrutiny of nomination papers will be held tomorrow and
the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is May 28.

If the BNP nominee does not withdraw her nomination papers by May 28, she
will be elected lawmaker unopposed, he added.

Of the 50 reserved seats, 49 persons were elected unopposed in the 11th
Jatiya Sangsad.

The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in
proportion with their number of seats in parliament. In this way, 43 seats
are allocated to Awami League, four to Jatiya Party, one for BNP and Jatiya
Oikyafront, Workers’ Party and independent candidates each.
