Momen urges ADB to raise Rohingya issue before int’l community

DHAKA, May 20, 2019 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today urged Asian Development Bank (ADB) to raise the Rohingya issue before international community and secure necessary funding and other humanitarian supports for them considering resource constraints of Bangladesh.

He made the urge when ADB country director here Manmohan Prokash called on him at foreign ministry here, a press release said.

The foreign minister thanked the ADB for providing humanitarian assistance to Rohingya camps and the grant of US$ 100 million.

During the meeting Momen highlighted the present government’s various ongoing mega projects and sought ADB’s continued assistance.

He requested the Country Director to finance in regional infrastructure projects including hydro-power generation, cross border power transmission and distribution.

The foreign minister appreciated the role of ADB in strengthening the regional connectivity through SASEC programme.

Prokash said that ADB was willing to strengthen its cooperation further with Bangladesh especially in the areas of infrastructure and skill development as well as in the areas which may contribute to take Bangladesh to the next level of growth and development.

He also expressed his willingness to increase cooperation with Bangladesh government in other socio-economic sectors including skill development activities of the foreign ministry.
