DHAKA, May 20, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered authorities
concerned to form teams to monitor fruit markets and warehouses across the
country so that none can use chemicals on fruits.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and
Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order after holding hearing on a
supplementary petition filed by rights group Human Rights and Peace for
Bangladesh (HRPB).

The court asked Inspector General of Police, Director General of RAB,
Chairman and director of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI)
to form the teams within next seven days. It also asked submit a report on
this by June 18.

The High Court on April 9 had ordered the authorities concerned to deploy
police within seven days in major mango orchards across the country including
Rajshahi to prevent use of chemicals on mangoes.

The court had also directed to submit a report on this by next 30 days.
The report was submitted today, saying the authorities have complied with the
order.
