Freedom Fighter Ilias Ahmed’s death anniversary tomorrow

DHAKA, May 18, 2019 (BSS) – The 28th death anniversary of freedom fighter,
former parliament member and sports organiser Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury (Dada
Bhai), a nephew of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,
will be observed tomorrow.

On the occasion, a milad and doa mahfil will be held on the day after Asr
prayers at his house under Shibchar upazila in Madaripur district, said a
press release of Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat.

Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury was born on August 15 in 1934 in a Muslim
sophisticated and landlord family at Duttapara Union in Shibchar upazila of
the district.

He was the chairman of the editorial board of now defunct daily Banglar
Bani, the then well-circulated daily newspaper. Ilias was also the president
of Arambagh Krirachakra and Khulna Abahani Krirachakra.

Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, elder son of Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury, was elected as
Member of Parliament (MP) from Madaripur-1 constituency. He was elected MP
six times and now became Chief Whip of Jatiya Sangsad.

His youngest son Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury (Nixon Chowdhury) was also
elected MP from Faridpur-4 constituency in the 10th and the 11th Jatiya
Sangsad elections.

Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury actively participated in the 1966 Six-Point Movement
and the Mass Uprising in 1969. He was elected in the Provincial Assembly
elections in 1970.

He died on May 18 in 1991.
