Health experts stress to keep HBP within safe range
RANGPUR, May 18, 2019 (BSS) – Health experts at a post-rally discussion have
stressed on keeping hypertension or high blood pressure (HBP) within safe range to
reduce risks of the silent killer disease for leading normal life.
They made these observations at the discussion organised by Hypertension and
Research Centre, Rangpur (HRCR) at its office on Friday, yesterday afternoon in
observance of the World Hypertension Day-2019.
The RHRC, a sister organisation of ‘Wasim-Waleda Bahumukhi Kallyan Foundation’, also
arranged free blood pressure checkup and counseling camps at Parker Mour, Press Club
and Shapla Chattar and arrange free blood pressure checkup and counseling services to
2,000 patients of the city.
The camps were arranged to make the people aware of severe consequences of
hypertension and uncontrolled HBP which leads to heart attacks, brain hemorrhage,
damages of kidney, eye sight and many other organs.
Earlier, a rally, participated by physicians, engineers, teachers, journalists,
students, civil society members, hypertension patients, professionals and elite, was
brought out on the city streets.
Founding President of HRCR and Head of the Department of Medicine of Bogra Shaheed
Ziaur Rahman Medical College and former Principal of Rangpur Medical College Prof Dr
Md. Zakir Hossain presided over the discussion.
Advisor of HRCR and Prof of the Department of Medicine at Rangpur Medical College
and Hospital Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, its Consultant of the same department Dr. ASM Rahenur
Mondol Apple and Consultant (Medicine) at Haragachh 31-bed hospital Dr. Probal
Sutradhar all spoke on the occasion.
Chief Executive Officer of HRCR Anwar Hossain said the organisation is currently
providing treatments to 23,000 registered HBP patients of Rangpur division and other
adjoining northern districts at a symbolic cost of only Taka 40.
Prof Mahfuzur cited various research findings and statistics of RHRC and said about
35 percent people of Rangpur region are suffering from hypertension against the
national percentage from 25 to 35 in different regions of the country.
“Any person can suffer from HBP, especially after 45, when problems may occur in
blood circulation process creating hypertension, uneasiness and illness situation and
suggested the people to checkup blood pressure regularly,” he added.
Prof Zakir suggested people to keep HBP within safe range by leaving smoking, taking
necessary medicines, appropriate foods, walking and physical exercises to lead a safer
life and avoid heart attacks, stroke, kidney ailments, diabetes and other deadly
diseases.
