Robin emerges unbeaten champion in May Day Rapid Rating Chess

DHAKA, May 17, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh Navy candidate master Mahatab Uddin Robin emerged unbeaten champion in the day-long May Day Rapid Rating Chess competition held on Friday at Malekabanu Adarsha Bidyaniketon in the city’s Uttara.

Robin secured 6.5 points out of seven matches to clinch the title while Abu Hanif of Sonali Bank Sports and Recreation Club and Titas Club candidate master Sohel Chowdhury finished second and third position respectively with 5.5 points each from the same number of matches after the tiebreaking system.

Besides, Giasuddin Ahmed Mithu and Jewel Khan of Leonine Chess Club, Masum Hossain of Shaheen Chess Club, Fide master Syed Mahfuzur Rahman of Janata Bank Officers Welfare Society finished fourth to seventh position respectively with five points each.

Meanwhile, Jayed Raihan of unrated category, Abdsur Rouf of above 50 year old category and Shawon Mostafa Prodhan of below 1800 rating category emerged best in the meet. Uttara Central Chess Club founder president Rahat Hossain was the chief guest in the closing ceremony and distributed the prizes.

Uttara Central Chess Club finance secretary Murad Hossain, office secretary Amad Ahmed Mortaza Rony and club’s executive member and former national chess player Monjur Alam were present on the occasion.
