JS body for dividing Dhaka WASA into north, south units

DHAKA, May 16, 2019 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Estimates today suggested the Local Government Division to take necessary steps for setting up Dhaka WASA south and north units like the two city corporations in Dhaka to ensure the supply of fresh water for the densely populated city.

“The committee in its second meeting expressed its dissatisfaction over the sluggish work-progress of some development projects under the Public Health Engineering Directorate (PHED) of the Local Government Division and Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA),” a parliament secretariat release said today.

The meeting, held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee chairman Md Abdus Shaheed in chair, also expressed its resentment over the absence of WASA managing director from the meeting.

The meeting was told that the JS body also suggested submitting a report of some development activities under the Local Government Division by 30 days.

Committee members Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Ahsan Adelur Rahman and Wasika Aeysha attended the meeting.

Besides, secretaries of the concerned ministries and senior officials were also present in the meeting.
