DHAKA, May 16, 2019 (BSS) – Khaled Mahmud Sujon, the former skipper of Bangladesh and also a BCB director, is quite sure that Bangladesh will be able to break the jinx of title-drought when they take on West Indies in tri-series final on Friday.

Bangladesh so far played six finals in a tournament involving three or more teams but lost all duly. In some of the matches they came so close but couldn’t finish it off well. They however played all six finals against three Asian giants-India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and therefore West Indies will be the first team who they will take on in final barring those three teams.

“It is always heart-breaking to loss the final,” said Sujon, who will act as the manager of Bangladesh team in the upcoming World Cup. “When we lost the game to Sri Lanka by two wickets and Pakistan by two runs and that was shocking for us. We have learnt many things from there.”

“In the last six finals we were underdogs but in this final, I think we are favourites specially the way we played all of the matches in group phase. I believe the luck will be with us this time around.”

While Bangladesh’s core group of players played their part perfectly, the reserve players also showed their capability by showing a good performance in the dead rubber against Ireland. That left Bangladesh team management in a bit of a quandary.

Sujon said this created a healthy competition in the side but the team management should take astute decision.

“No doubt it’s a sweet problem. Rahi was fantastic in the last match. Liton played superb knock. But you can pick up only 11 players so the team management should take decision astutely,” Sujon said.

Sujon, who is also the coach of Abahani Limited in DPL and the coach of Dhaka Dynamites in BPL, said the team should be selected based on the condition.

“Based on the condition the team should be selected since all of the players have been in good form. In the final, I think Mehidy Hasan Miraj will come back. Mithun also will come back, so is Soumya. Liton played well in the last match but Soumya made back-to-back half-century. I think Saifuddin is the best death bowler of the side at the moment. If Shakib is fit, Shakib will lead the spin attack.”
