NARSINGDI, May 16, 2019 (BSS) – The weavers of Jamdani Saree at Daulatpur union of Monohardi upazila of the district are now busy for producing attractive Jamdani Saree before Eid-ul-Fitr.
The weavers for better earning are remain very busy before the Eid when demand of their produced products increases in the aristocrat markets of the capital city and other major markets in the country.
Rafiqul Islam of Daulatpur union, after getting training on weaving of Jamdani, opened a factory at his home in 1988.
Seeing Rafiqul, a number of people in the union started the same job and got benefit. At present, there are 50 Jamdani factories in Daulatpur union and over 200 people including weavers are working at those factories.
Local entrepreneur Abu Based said Jamdani Saree weaving factories generating employment for many poor families. Before Eid, the weavers are working day and night for more earnings.
He said Jamdani factories also generate employment for local poor women of different villages who are now dreaming a better future for their children.
This correspondent recently visited Daulatpur Jamdani Palli, finding that the weavers are passing busy time with making the finest textile.
Talking to BSS, the weavers said each saree on its quality and variety is fetched Tk 5,000 to Tk 20,000 in capital and other district markets.
They said most of the women in the village have now become skilled craftswomen to decorate Jamdani saree with ornamental stitching to earn Taka 2000 to 2500 weakly and up to Taka 3000 to 4000 before the Eid festival.
Successful craftswomen Salma, Anwara and Bilkis said they have achieved self-reliance through ornamental needlework in the Jamdani saree.
