Last tributes paid to poet Hayat Saif

DHAKA, May 14, 2019 (BSS) – People from all walks of life paid their last respects to Ekushey Padak-2018 winning poet and translator Hayat Saif as his body was taken to Bangla Academy for second namaz-e-janaza today.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held at the Scout Bhaban and he will be buried at Mirpur Shaheed Buddhijibi Graveyard after holding the third namaz-e-janaza at Gulshan Azad Mosque, a Bangla Academy press release said.

Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman, Bangla Academy Director General Habibullah Siraji and Kabi Nazrul Institute paid rich tributes by placing wreaths on his coffin, the release added.

Incumbent Political Advisor to the Prime Minister HT Imam, National Prof Rafiquzzaman, Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University Dr Shirin Akhter, Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan along with the cultural personalities and academics including author and novelist Rashid Haider, actor Ramendu Majumder, poets Zahidul Haque and Kamal Chowdhury also paid tributes, among others.

Bangla Academy informed that in the memories of poet Hayat Saif, a discussion will be held on May 20 at 11 am at Bangla Academy’s Kabi Shamsur Rahman Seminar Room’.
