DHAKA, May 14, 2019 (BSS) – After his match-winning performance against West Indies, Bangladesh pace spearhead Mustafizur Rahman vowed to be consistent in a bid to contribute more in the team’s cause.

The Fizz picked up the match of match award for his superb bowling performance that saw him claim 4-43 against West Indies at the Malahide in Dublin. He varied his pace in excellent way to unsettle the West Indies batsman and eventually helped Bangladesh seal the spot in tri-series final with a match to go.

Last time he got the man of the match award exactly two years ago and interestingly that also came in Dublin at the same venue. But the opponent was Ireland against whom he snapped up 4-23.

Despite being a key part of the bowling unit Mustafizur took two years to win a match on his own terms unlike the past when he got two ‘man of the match’ awards in his first two matches against India back in 2015.

More importantly this performance came after leaking 92 and 84 runs in his last two International matches.

But Mustafizur is determined to shrug off those and wants to collect these awards more regularly.

“I am happy that I received the man of the match. I was confident after picking up the first wicket. I had to bowl during slog overs in which I conceded many runs but now I am accustomed to bowl in those overs. I just wish it does not take me for so long (to get the next man of the match award),” he said.

“I want to be consistent as more as I can to,” he added.

Mustafizur is considered to be the backbone of Bangladesh’s bowling unit as his good bowling is imperative in winning match for Bangladesh. But prone to injury has played a crucial part in his career.

Mustafizur has had to endure a number of injuries in his career so far. The start of the ordeal was in England in early 2016 where he picked up a shoulder strain playing in the T20 Blast tournament.

A grade-two lateral ankle injury followed while he was taking part in a football drill, ruling him out of the start of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2017. He also missed the T20I series against Afghanistan in Dehradun, which Afghanistan won 3-0, and also missed the Test series in West Indies, which Bangladesh again lost 2-0. He arrived in Ireland after completing a rehab program for his ankle injury.
