Three killed in gunfight with police in Cox’s bazaar

COX’s Bazar, May 14, 2019 (BSS)- Three persons including two Rohingya nationals of Myanmar died in gunfight with police in two separate places here last night.

The dead persons were identified as Azim Ullah, 20, son of Abdur Rahim of Shamplapur Rohingya Camp in Teknaf, Abdus Salam, 52, son of late Rahim Ali of Jamtali Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya and Syedul Mostafa alias Bhulu, son of Jahir Haji of Pahartali of Cox’s Bazar town.

Police said the skirmishes took place at Shamlapur of Teknaf Upazila and Katapahar area of Cox’s Bazar town in the early hours of today.

OC of Teknaf Model thana said police conducted a predawn raid at Shamplapur area receiving information that some Rohingyas were assembled for trafficking.

Sensing presence of police the traffickers started firing on them provoking law enforcers for retaliation in self defense, he said.

Following the gunfight police found two bullet-riddled bodies on the spot who were pronounced dead by doctors in the hospital.

The second gunfight was happened at Pahartali area of Cox’s Bazaar town when police along with Syedul Mostafa Bhulu went to Katapahar area to recover arms and yaba.

Bhulu received bullet injury during exchange of fire between the members of the law enforcing agencies and accomplices of Bhulu, OC of Cox’s Bazar thana said adding that doctors declared him dead in the hospital.

According to police they seized firearms, ammunitions and yaba from the spots.
