Bangladesh U16 seals one-day series in emphatic way

DHAKA, May 13, 2019 (BSS) – Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi came up with a stellar all-round performance yet again as Bangladesh Under-16 team clinched the three-match one-day series against Pakistan, scraping past the visitors by 17 runs in the second match at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Monday.

Mahfuz who also contributed in Bangladesh’s 89-run victory in the first match, dazzled with both willow and cherry in the second match too, striking a 34 ball-44 not out and leading the bowling attack with a 3-50 figure to help the team to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Opting to bat first, the Junior Tigers piled up 259-7 in 50 overs with opener Mofizul Islam Robin hitting highest 69. Aich Mollah blasted 52 while Rihad Khan chipped-in-with 32 before Mahfuz gave the late impetus with his whirlwind knock.

Aseer Mughal and Aaliyan Mehmood took two wickets apiece for Pakistan.

However the visitor were restricted to 242-9 in 50 overs to taste 17-runs defeat and conceded the series too. Opener Sameer Saqib was the highest scorer for the side with 55. Muhammad Waqad was the other notable scorer with 38.

Ashiqur Rahman snapped up 2-39 to complement Mahfuz’s three scalps.
