PM gives Tk 10 lakh for ATM Shamsuzzaman’s treatment

DHAKA, May 13, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today gave Taka 10 lakh for better treatment of Ekushey Padak-winning actor ATM Shamsuzzaman.

On the premier’s behalf, her Special Assistant Barrister Biplob Barua handed over a cheque for the amount to the actor’s daughter Koyel at Asgar Ali Hospital in the old Dhaka where he has been undergoing treatment since April 26.

Barrister Barua also enquired about the health condition from the attending doctors.

“My father is comparatively well now,” Koyel told reporters while replying to a query about his father’s health condition.

Dr Samanta Lal Sen, national coordinator at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), and noted singer Rafiqul Alam, among others, were present on the occasion.

Shamsuzzaman was put on life support on April 30 as his health condition deteriorated, but it was later removed on the same day as the condition improved slightly.

He was put on the ventilation again on May 6 which was withdrawn on May 11.

Shamsuzzaman, who wrote over 100 stories, and film scripts, started his career in 1961 as an Assistant Director in “Bishkonna” and gained popularity in the silver screen as a comedian.

He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015 and won Bangladesh National Film Awards five times.
