Bangladesh to face Laos next month in AFC pre-qualifiers

DHAKA, May 11, 2019 (BSS) – The Bangladesh national team will play against Laos in Round 1 of the Preliminary Joint Qualification for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 next month.

The two teams will face each other in a two-legged tie. The first leg will be held in Laos’s capital of Vientiane on June 6 while the second leg is scheduled to be held on June 11 in Dhaka.

Bangladesh will go through to the final qualifying round of the World Cup if they can beat Laos in this two-legged battle. Not only that they will also get the ticket to play the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Football Federation has organized two friendly matches against two Thai Premier League Clubs in their home grounds ahead of the pre-qualifiers.

The boys in red and green will leave Dhaka for Thailand on May 24 to play the friendly matches scheduled to be held on May 28 and June 1.

Bangladesh will play their first match against Air Force United FC before facing BG Pathum United FC on June 1.

The Bangladesh national team played their last international match against Cambodia on March 9 when they won the match 1-0.

After that, most of the national team players visited Bahrain to take part in the qualifying round of AFC U-23 tournament and played some quality football there.

Bangladesh also won the final group match against Sri Lanka by 2-0 margin.

However, Bangladesh lost two other matches to Palestine and hosts Bahrain, who were far ahead of Bangladesh in FIFA rankings.
