RANGPUR, May 09, 2019 (BSS) – The tenth death anniversary of renowned nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr M A Wazed Miah was observed today in befitting manger in the district.
Pirganj upazila administration, Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad (DWSS), Dr Wazed Foundation, Pirganj upazila Awami League (AL), family of Dr Wazed and educational institutions observed the death anniversary through daylong programmes.
The programmes included placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed in the morning at village Laldighee Fatehpur under Pirganj upazila, offering Fateha, Milad mahfil, ‘Ziayarat’ and distribution of foods to the poor and memorial discussions.
Government officials, public representatives and leaders of different
organisations placed wreaths at the grave of the nuclear scientist and
offered Fateha, ‘Ziayarat’ and special munajats.
Leaders of Dr Wazed Foundation, different educational institutions and
family members of Dr Wazed placed wreaths.
On behalf of Pirganj upazila AL, its Acting President Advocate Azizur
Rahman Ranga with other leaders placed wreaths there.
Pirganj municipality Mayor and General Secretary of Pirganj upazila AL
Tazimul Islam Shamim and Acting Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer TM Momin
placed wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed on behalf of their respective
institutions.
Led by Senior Vice-president of DWSS Rawshan Ara Wahed, it’s General
Secretary Saiful Islam Jahangir and other leaders placed wreaths at the grave
of Dr Wazed, offered Fateha and ‘Ziayarat’ there.
Later, DWSS organised doa mahfils at different mosques in Rangpur city
after Johr prayers and offered special prayers seeking eternal peace of the
departed soul of Dr Wazed and well-being of his family members.
Pirganj upazila AL organised a memorial discussion on the life and works of
Dr Wazed on the ‘Joy Sadan’ premises in village Laldighee Fatehpur with its
Acting President Advocate Azizur Rahman Ranga in the chair.
Vice-president of district AL Chhayadat Hossain Bakul addressed the
discussion as the chief guest.
Adviser Professor Nurul Amin Raja addressed the occasion moderated by
General Secretary of Pirganj upazila AL and Pirganj municipality Mayor
Tazimul Islam Shamim.
Speakers in these discussions termed Dr Wazed as a greed-lees man and
real patriot who worked for the nation to build a technologically advanced
developed Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman.
Chhayadat Hossain Bakul suggested the young generations of the present
times to follow the ideals of Dr Wazed, an incomparable noble patriot, to
build a developed Sonar Bangla to realise the dream of Bangabandhu.
The nuclear scientist with international repute having colourful
working life experience was born on February 16, 1942 in a respectable Muslim
family of Laldighee Fatehpur village in Pirganj upazila of the district.
He died on May 9, 2009.
