DHAKA, May 09, 2019 (BSS) – Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) today sent letter to Myanmar authority for sending Bangladesh experts to help them in investigating Biman’s aircraft crash landing incident that took place in Yangon international airport yesterday.
“We are yet to receive any formal response from Myanmar in this regards but as per ICAO rule Yangon had to include representative from host country of aircraft in their investigation process,” Head of Aircraft Accident Investigation Group (AAIG) of CAAB Capt. Salahuddin M Rahmatullah told BSS today.
As per Annex 13 of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), one accredited representative from the airlines host country will conduct the investigation jointly with the probe team of the country witnessed accident.
Capt Saluddin, who had represented Bangladesh in the accident investigation body of Nepal after US-Bangla aircraft deadly crash in Kathmandu in last year, said they are taking preparation to visit Yangon to take part in the investigation.
“I will leave for Yangon on Saturday and other experts will follow me later,” he said, adding that initially there will be four to five members Bangladesh expert team, lead by him, to visit Yangon.
Meanwhile, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier, formed a six-member probe committee headed by the airlines chief of flight safety Captain Shoeb Chowdhury to investigate the incident.
The flight BG-060, operated by Dash-8 Q 400 aircraft, left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 3:45 pm yesterday from Dhaka to Yangon and suffered an overrun incident on landing amid rough weather at approximately 6:22 pm local time, wounding 19 including one infant and six women out of 35 passengers and crews.
“Hospital authority at Yangon released four passengers last night and none of other 15 injured who are now undergoing treatment there is in critical condition,” Biman’s General Manager (PR) Shakil Meraj told newsmen at Balaka, the national flag carrier’s headquarters in the capital, this morning.
Apart from two pilots, two cabin crews and two ground engineers, there were 29 passengers including one infant from Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, China, Denmark, France, Britain and Canada, the official sources said.
Representatives from Myanmar Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and Aircraft Accident Investigation Branch (AIIB) went to the crash site last night, officials said.
Biman sent a special flight at 11:25 pm last night to Yangon to bring the passengers who were waiting to catch the return flight from Yangon to Dhaka.
“The special flight BG 1061 landed back at HSIA carrying 17 return passengers at 4:50 am this morning,” Meraj said.
Biman, he said, is providing assistance to the passengers in Yangon. “Families of passengers on board flight BG-060 are requested to contact us on the following emergency response numbers for further assistance +88028901530,” he added.
