Writ filed to withdraw 52 substandard products from market

DHAKA, May 09, 2019 (BSS) – A writ was filed today with High Court
seeking its directive to withdraw and stop production of 52 food products
proven to be substandard in the test conducted by Bangladesh Standard Testing
Institution (BSTI).

Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan filed the writ on behalf of Conscious
Consumer Society (CCS) and the High Court division bench comprising Justice
Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil may hear the case.

CCS sent legal notice to concerned authorities on May 6 as they did not
withdraw the substandard products and did not take legal steps against
culprit companies. CCS finally filed the writ as the reply of the notice has
not been given. They also pleaded to issue rule in this regard.

Food secretary, commerce secretary, BSTI director general, chairman of
Bangladesh Food Safety Authority and director general of Directorate of
National Consumer Rights Protection were made respondents in the writ.
