Bangladesh-India relations to be strengthened further: Majumder

NAOGAON, May 8, 2019 (BSS) – Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has said
relations between Bangladesh and India will be strengthened further as the two
countries have ample opportunities for boosting economic development.

Bangladesh and India are working together through exchanging experiences
and knowledge sharing in different fields of development, he told at the
Bangladesh and India friendship female hostel on premises of Shangshoil
Adibasi School and College under Niamatpur upazila in the district on Tuesday.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das, Lawmaker Salim
Uddin Tarafdar, Deputy Commissioner Mizanur Rahman, Niamatpur upazila
Parishad Chairman and officials of different organisations, among others,
were present at the function.

Majumdar said, “Bangali nation remembers assistances of India during the
War of Liberation with due respect… India sheltered over one crore
Bangladeshi people at that time.”

Barind region in northern parts of Bangladesh is facing scarcity of pure
drinking water, he said, adding, “The Indian government has set up nearly 400
tube-wells in the region to remove the drinking water problem of the people.”

“The government has a plan to construct a land port at Sapahar upazila in
Naogaon. The Indian government will assure to contribute for building the
land port,” the minister said.
