DHAKA, May 8, 2019 (BSS) – People from all walks of life paid their last respects to renowned singer and composer Subir Nandi as his body was brought back here from Singapore early today.
Sammilitto Sangskritik Jote paid their homage to Subir Nandi when his body was arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 6:30 am.
From there, the body was taken to his capital’s Green Road residence. Later, the body was taken to Dhakeshwari temple where people also paid their respects to him.
At 11am, his body was brought to the Central Shaheed Minar premises where people of all classes thronged to pay last tributes to this renowned singer.
Representatives of different political, socio-cultural organizations and professional bodies paid their last tributes for Subir Nandi at the Central Shaheed Minar premises.
On behalf of Bangladesh Awami League, party acting general secretary Mahabub-Ul-Alam Hanif and central leader Osim Kumar Ukil Gazi while Majharul Anower on behalf of BNP, placed wreaths at his coffin.
Later, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, MP, Cultural Affairs Minister KM Khalid, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Akhteruzzaman, Rabindra Sangit Shilpi Sangsad, KM Shafiullah of Sector Commanders’ Forum, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Mohila Awami League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Ganosakhharota Abhijan, Ganosangit Samonnay Parishad, Benuka Lolitokala Academy, Joybangla Sangskritik Oikya Jote, Police Service Association, Janata Bank, Ain O Salish Kendra, Gano Azadi League, Mohila Parishad, Bangla Academy, Shishu Academy, NAP (Mojaffar), Bangladesh Betar, Kumudini Welfare Trust, Jatiya Kabita Parishad, Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhists-Christians Oikya Parishad, Workers Party, BTV, Desh TV Family, Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Jatiya Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Chhayanat, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Bangladesh Sangit Parishad and Khelaghar Kendriya Asor placed wreaths at his coffin.
Besides, among the cultural personalities and artists — Ramendru Majumder, Nasir Uddin Yusuf, Dr Enamul Hauqe, singer Rafiqul Islam, Khurshid Alam, Rejwana Chowdhury Bonnya, Khairul Anam Shakil, Kumar Biswajit, Endru Kishore, Kollani Ghosh and Arup Ratan Chowdhury paid their last tribute to Subir Nandi.
Later, Subir’s body was taken to Film Development Corporation (FDC) around 12:45pm. The cremation ceremony will be held at Sabujbag cremation ground.
The 66-year-old Subir Nandi died of multiple organs failure following heart attacks at a hospital in Singapore early yesterday.
