Chinese national held with 24 gold bars in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, May 8, 2019 (BSS)- Customs officials at Chattogram Shah Amanat
International Airport (CSIA) today detained a Chinese national with 24 gold
bars worth about Taka 1.2 crore.

The Chinese citizen Fan Rangui arrived in Chattogram on board a flight (BG-
148) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at CSIA from Dubai at 7.15 am.

“The gold bars were found inside a charger light that he was carrying.
During a scan, the bars were spotted,” said Squadron leader Sarwar-e-Zaman,
manager of the CSIA.

Nuruddin Milon, assistant commissioner of Customs at CSIA told BSS that
the gold bars weighing around 2.8 kilograms from Fan Rangui who has visited
Bangladesh 43 times since last year.

The authority suspects that the arrested Chinese national is a member of
an organised gold smuggling group and they have begun investigation into his
frequent visits here, he said.

Rangui handed over to Patenga thana in this connection, said Nuruddin.
