DSCC to conduct close monitoring at city’s different kitchen markets from today, says

CEO

DHAKA, May 07, 2019 (BSS) – The Dhaka South City Corporation will closely monitor the

price situation at different markets in the capital from today in order to contain the

price hike of the essentials into a tolerable limit on the occasion of the holy

Ramadan.

“Our monitoring team will begin work from today at different kitchen markets

throughout the city to oversee the price situation of the essentials including meat,”

said Mostafizur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dhaka South City Corporation

(DSCC).

The DSCC has already formed a ‘market monitoring committee’ comprising with different

organizations including City Corporation and Consumers Association Bangladesh (CAB) to

this end, said the CEO.

The meat traders must have to sell the meat with the fixed price which earlier has

been set by the city corporations authorities, said the official, adding that but the

super shops like Agora and Shawpna are not under its purview.

On May 6, the Dhaka City Corporation authorities fixed the price of beef at Taka 525

and mutton at Taka 750 per kg for the holy Ramadan.

The price was fixed at a meeting between officials of the Dhaka South City

Corporation (DSCC) and the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and the meat traders at

DSCC office.

The meeting also fixed the price of one kilogram of Indian beef at Taka 500, buffalo

at Taka 480 and lamb at Taka 650.

The price will be effective from the first day of Ramadan and continue till the 26th

day, said DSCC Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon, adding that if any meat trader violates

the rule, punitive action will be taken against him.

“The commodity price will not soar anyhow this year compared to the last year’s

price, it will rather decline,” said the Mayor.
