Boro paddy harvested early in haor region to avoid floodwater

Although flash flood inundated some areas of haor region, no significant
damage took place on crop lands, particularly Boro paddy, they said adding,
onrush of water from upstream region of India entered haor areas in Sunamganj

The DAE sources said 94 percent of Boro paddy have been harvested in the
Sunamganj district while 95 percent paddy was harvested in haor regions in
Sylhet.

Shah Jahan, an official of DAE, said, “We have instructed farmers early
harvesting as flash flood may damage their boro paddy. As per the directive
of DAE, farmers harvested Boro paddy to save their staple crops from
floodwater.”

A total of 2,75,705 hectares of land were brought under Boro cultivation
in the current season in the Sylhet haor region , he said, adding 2,33,957
