Additional IGP Rowshan Ara dies in Congo road crash

DHAKA, May 6, 2019 (BSS) – Rowshan Ara Begum, an additional inspector
general (IGP) of Bangladesh police, died in a road accident in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo on Sunday morning (local time).

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia confirmed
the news this noon saying, “The accident took place in Congo’s capital
Kinshasa on Sunday at 6:30am local time.”

Rawshan Ara, who went to Congo to attend a Medal Parade of the Bangladesh
women armed police unit in the peacekeeping missions there, died on the spot
after a collision between a civilian lorry and the vehicle carrying Rowshan
Ara there.

The DMP commissioner said three others including Farzana, commander (SP),
BANFPU, were injured in the accident.

Rowshan Ara Begum, ppm, ndc, joined police on February 15 in 1988 and
served with different capacities, including Assistant Police Commissioner of
the Accounts Section, Reserve Office, Traffic Division and Training Unit of
Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Due to her dedication and hard work, she was the first woman police
officer in the Bangladesh Police given the responsibility of a Superintendent
of Police (SP) at the district level.

She was promoted to the post of additional IGP on November 6, 2018.

Rowshan Ara got several prestigious awards of Bangladesh Police in
different times for her outstanding contributions to his services.

She obtained BSS (honours) and MSS degrees from Dhaka University. She
passed SSC from former T and T High School of Moghbazar and HSC from
Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.

Begum Rowshan left behind her husband and a daughter.
