Meeting on women and girl child held in Nilphamari
NILPHAMARI, May 6, 2019 (BSS) – Meeting on “Women and girl child’ was
held in the district administration conference room here today aiming to
protect rights of womenfolk in the society.
Pollishiri , an non-government organization, in cooperation with
Manusher Jonney Foundation organized the meeting to dissiminate information
on women’s rights.
Additional deputy commissiner(general) Md Azaharul Islam, officials of
different government organizations and rights activists, among others,
addressed the meeting.
At the meeting, speakers laid emphasis on taking initiatives to ensure
easy access of women to different development process, which eventually would
make them empowered socially and economically.
According to health experts, child marriage creates many health
complications among mothers and it must be stopped for promoting women
empowerment.
When a minor girl becomes mother, the health of both the mother and the
child become vulnerable, they said adding early marriage is one of the major
causes for higher rate of malnutrition among children.
The speakers urged the government to take all necessary measures,
including strict enforcement of the existing law, for eliminating child
marriage.
