Bangladesh suffer humiliating defeat in warm-up game

DHAKA, May 6, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh made a disappointing start to their
Ireland tour when they tasted a crushing 88-run defeat to Ireland Wolves, a
second string team of the Ireland in the only practice game at the Hills
Cricket Club in Dublin on Sunday.

This was serious blow to their ambition ahead of their tri-nation series
campaign, which they will start on Tuesday against West Indies.

Opting to bat first, Ireland Wolves treated Bangladeshi bowlers in
disdain to compile 307-8 in 50 overs after which their bowlers, led by Simi
Singh bowled Bangladesh out for 219 in 42.4 overs.

Simi Singh claimed 4-51 before hitting a crucial 91 runs in batting.

Ireland Wolves opener James McCollum led the charge with 102 off 109,
hitting 15 fours and one six while Simi Singh’s 95 ball-91 was studded with
six fours and two sixes. The duo combined for a 124-run for the third wicket
stand to pave the platform of big total.

McCollum along with his fellow opener Jack Tector gave the side a fluent
start. Fast bowler Rubel Hossain made the breakthrough by dismissing Tector
for 15 while left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan got rid of James Shannon (18)
to peg back Wolves innings.

McCollum got apt support in Simi Singh as the duo frustrated the
Bangladeshi bowlers halfway through the innings before Rubel broke through
again with the wicket of McCollum.

Simi Singh still posed a threat; however Taskin Ahmed removed him to
give Bangladesh a sigh of relief. Bangladeshi bowlers then bowled well in
tandem to raise the prospect of preventing Ireland Wolves from going past
300.

But Tyrone Kane further disappointed them. He blasted 13 ball-27 to give
the finishing touch in style as Ireland Wolves took the psychological edge
for the time being by going past 300.

Taskin Ahmed claimed 3-66 after bowling 10 overs while his fellow
paceman Rubel Hossain grabbed 2-63 in nine overs. Shakib Al Hasan, Farhad
Reza and Mehidy Hasan Miraj scalped one wicket apiece.

Bangladesh got off to a solid start in pursuit of huge chase with opener
Tamim Iqbal (21) and Liton Das (26) adding 56 runs for the opening stand. But
both of the openers were removed in the consecutive overs to leave Bangladesh
56-2.

Shakib Al Hasan who led the side in absence of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza,
counterattacked in style, hammering a 43 ball-54 with seven fours and one six
but wickets continued tumbling around him to make the task tougher.

As Tyrone Kane got rid of Shakib Al Hasan, onus was on Mahmudullah to
keep the side unscathed. Mahmudullah started promisingly but failed to
convert his good start to be out on 37. After his dismissal, Bangladesh’s
batting fell like a pack of cards to ensure Ireland Wolves’ facile victory.

Kane complemented Simi Singh’s four-for with 2-38.
