JS body recommends increasing utility of Kaptai Lake

DHAKA, MAY 05, 2019 (BSS) – The third meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts’ was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The chairman of the committee Md Dabirul Islam presided over the meeting. Members of the committee Bir Bhadur Ushwe Singh, Dipangkar Talukder, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury and Basanti Chakma, were also present at the meeting.

It was stated in the meeting that Development Project Proposal (DPP) has been formulated to increase the navigability of the Kaptai Lake from Rangamati to Thegamukh area and to examine the possibility of excavation work in the lake, said a press release.

Also, it was said that the further decisions will be taken depending on the discussions held at the previous DPP meeting of the Shipping Ministry in March this year.

The committee underscored the necessity of releasing fish fries into the Kaptai Lake, to increase its utility in producing fish.

An elaborate discussion about the development activities taken by the government in Chattogram hill tracts areas was held.

The committee placed a recommendation to appoint doctors to fill up vacant positions in the hospitals and community clinics to speed up the health services in the hill tracts area, added the release.

Before the meeting, one minute silence was observed to condemn the recent terrorist attacks in New Zealand and Srilanka that claimed scores of innocent lives.

Health Department Secretary, Chattogram Hill Tracts Ministry Secretary, Director General of Ansar and VDP, Chairmen of the Hill Tracts Zilla Parishads, officials of respective secretariat and the Jatiya Sangsad were present at the meeting.
