Call to ensure safe water, sanitation for unprivileged people

RANGPUR, May 5, 2019 (BSS) – Experts at a project launching workshop today stressed on ensuring safe water and hygienic sanitation facilities for unprivileged, ultra poor and backward urban people to improve their living standard.

The NGO Forum for Public Health organised the event at its Regional Training Centre in the city to launch the Strengthening Pro-poor and Participatory Local Governance (SPPLG) project, a Sub-project of Excluded People’s Rights in Bangladesh.

Officials of different government and non-governmental development
organisations, Councilors of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) and civil
society members attended the event arranged with funding of Ukaid and
assistance of Manusher Janno Foundation.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa attended the workshop as the
chief guest with Executive Director of the NGO Forum for Public Health SMA
Rashid in the chair.

Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Md. Zakirul Islam, Superintending Engineer of the
Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE) Bahar Uddin Mridha and
Superintending Engineer of RpCC Amdad Hossain addressed it as special guests.

Moderated by Regional Manager of NGO Forum for Public Health Shah Md.
Ahsan Habib, Head of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation of the SPPLG project
informed the stakeholders about activities to be implemented under the
project.

Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa appreciated the initiative of launching
of the SPPLG project by the NGO Forum for Public Health.

“After successful implementation of the project, all underprivileged,
deprived, ultra poor and backward people of Rangpur city will come under safe
drinking water and hygienic sanitation facilities,” Mostafa hoped.

Rashid in his concluding speech sought cooperation of RpCC, DPHE and all
other development organisations and institutions for smooth implementation of
the project.
