Fani located over Satkhira, Jashore, Khulna region: met Office

DHAKA, May 04, 2019 (BSS) – The severe cyclonic storm “Fani” over gangetic
West Bengal and adjoining southwestern part of Bangladesh moved north and
northeastwards further, weakening into a cyclonic storm and is located over
Satkhira, Jashore and Khulna region and adjoining area at 6 am today, a met
office release said.

It is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction further inland over
Bangladesh, it said.

Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, the sky remains overcast and
rain and thundershowers with gusty or squally wind is continuing over
Bangladesh.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the storm centre is about 62
kph rising to 88 kph in gusts and squalls. Sea will remain very rough.

Maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisting
danger signal number seven, the met bulletin said.

Coastal districts of Bhola, Borguna, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirozpur,
Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars
will come under danger signal number seven.

Maritime port of chottagram has been advised to be hoisted danger signal
number six as Coastal districts of Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni,
Chandpur and their offshore islands and chars will also come under danger
signal number six

Maritime port of Cox’s Bazar has been advised to keep hoisted local warning
signal number four.

Under the influence of the very severe cyclonic storm “Fani” and the new
moon phase, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Chattogram,
Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal,
Pirozpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands
and chars are likely to be inundated by storm surge of 2-4 feet height above
normal astronomical tide.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay and deep sea have been
advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
