Covered van driver gives confessional statement over death of Labanya

DHAKA, May 03, 2019 (BSS) – Anisur Rahman, who was driving the covered van that crushed female Uber passenger Fahmida Haque Labanya in the capital on April 25, gave a confessional statement in the case lodged over that incident.

Rahman made the statement under section 164 before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sorafuzzaman Ansari as police produced him before the court after end of his four-day remand.

After recording his statement, the court sent Rahman to jail.

Earlier on May 1, the Uber moto rider Sumon Hossain, whose bike was carrying Labanya, made a confessional statement as police produced him before court after end of his two-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah on April 28 placed Rahman on a four-day remand and Sumon Hossain on a two-day remand in the case.

BRAC University student Fahmida Haque Labanya, 21, was killed as she got thrown out of the Uber moto bike and crushed by the covered van on April 25 in capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

Police in the primary investigation found that both the biker and the covered van driver were driving indiscriminately on that day, resulting in the death of a bright young girl.
