Bangladesh, Laos declared joint champions in Bangamata U-19 Women’s Gold Cup

DHAKA, May 3, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh and Laos have been declared joint champions in the inaugural six-nation Bangamata U-19 Women’s International Gold Cup football tournament on Friday.

The title deciding final match was scheduled to start at 6 pm at the
Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) but few rounds of rain in the capital due
to severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ made impossible to host the match and the
Bangladesh Football Federation eventually decided to postponed the play and
declared Bangladesh and Laos as the joint champions in the tournament.

In a press conference held at the press facilities of BNS in today
evening Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) senior vice president and
tournament’s organising committee chairman Abdus Salam Murshedi MP told the
pressmen that they decided to postpone the final due to cyclone ‘Fani’.

He said due to the severity of Fani and the consequent situation around
the country, the local organising committee and tournament committee of the
tournament in consultation with the participating teams, decided to postpone
the final.

The prize money for the final will be equally divided between the two
teams (US$20,000 each).

Earlier, Bangladesh made an auspicious start in the tournament as they
blanked UAE by 2-0 goals in their group opening match and defeated Kyrgyzstan
by 2-1 goals in their group second match to emerge group top.

The host got the ticket of the final beating Mongolia by 3-0 goals in
the second semi-final.

On the other hand, Laos thrashed Mongolia 5-0 goals in their group
opening match and drubbed Tajikistan by 6-0 goals in their second match to
emerge group top.

They confirmed their final of the tournament crushing Kyrgyzstan by 7-1
goals in the first semi-final.

The six-nation tournament has begun at BNS on April 22 with the
participation of Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Tajikistan, UAE and hosts
Bangladesh.
