CAAB takes preparations at airports due to cyclone “Fani”

DHAKA, May 3, 2019 (BSS) – Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) member (operation and planning) Air Commodore Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman today said necessary preparations were made under the Standard Operating Procedure at the airports due to the super cyclone “Fani’.

“We have taken preparations regarding cyclone ‘Fani’ as per the Standard Operating Procedure from last Thursday after talking to all authorities concerned,” he said.

The situation to cancel flights has not created yet, he said, adding
that’s why CAAB still has not taken any decision regarding cancellation of
ply of aircrafts at airports.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Armed Police Battalion
(APBn) Tariq Ahmed told BSS this afternoon that due to the cyclonic storm,
the Kolkata-bound flight from Bangladesh has been cancelled to avoid untoward
situation.

However, all other air routes from Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International
Airport are still remain active, he added.

Cox’s Bazar airport Manager Abul Kalam Mohammad Saiduzzaman said “Our
airport activities are still operational despite having local cautionary
signal number 4 here.

“If weather deteriorates, we will take further decision after adjusting
and coordinating with other airlines,” he added.

Earlier, Dhaka Meteorological Department meteorologist Ashraf Uddin said
the cyclone ‘Fani’ would reach Bangladesh by today’s midnight as it has
already hit India’s coastal area Puri.

Special cautionary steps have been taken for this cyclone in 19 coastal
districts.
