657 cyclone-shelters ready in Bhola

BHOLA, May 2, 2019 (BSS) – A total of 657 cyclone shelters have been
prepared and seven control rooms have been opened in the district as the very
severe cyclonic storm “Fani” continues to move towards the country’s coastal
belt.

The health division of the district has formed 83 medical teams to tackle
the imminent natural disaster.

Leaves of all government employees in the district have been cancelled to
ensure immediate response to the cyclone causing any havoc.

“Disaster Management Committee and 657 cyclone-shelters remain prepared for
the Fani. Volunteers are ready to supply dry foods,” Bhola Deputy
Commissioner Md Masud Alam Siddiq said today.

“Along with government officials, non-government voluntary organisations
have been asked to work in the field level,’ he said, adding that all fishing
boats and trawlers have been asked to remain in safe shelter until further
notice.

Besides, the local administration has suspended plying of unsafe vessels
and trawlers on the river routes for communicating with chars. People of the
remote areas have been asked to stay safe and go to the cyclone-shelter
centres.

Deputy Director of Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) Md Shahabuddin Miah
said a total of 1,200 volunteers are working in the field-level.

Announcements are being made in loudspeakers to take the coastal areas
people to safe shelters before the cyclone hits, he said, adding red flag has
been hoisted as a symbol of danger.

Red Crescent unit general secretary Azizul Islam said Red Crescent has
taken all-out preparations to face the very severe cyclonic storm “Fani”.

About 500 volunteers are working in the field levels, he said, adding that
dry foods are ready for distribution among the victims of the cyclone.
