District administration to monitor market price in Ramadan

RAJSHAHI, May 2, 2019 (BSS) – District administration has taken decision
of monitoring market price of essentials from the first Ramadan aims at
preventing any price hiking of those here round the holy month.

The administration will also conduct mobile courts in the vermicelli
manufacturing factories from the second week of the month.

The decision was taken in a meeting of keeping the supply of essential
consumer products and retail price stable in the month of Ramadan held at the
conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office yesterday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ruhul
Amin and Additional Superintendent of Police Ifte Khayer Alam addressed the
meeting as focal persons.

It was also addressed, among others, by TCB Regional Officer Protap
Kumar, Assistant Director of Department of Consumers Rights Protection Apurba
Adikhary, General Secretary of Businessmen Coordination Council Sekendar Ali
and hotel owners Md Tinku and Shahidul Islam.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Kader says drastic action will be taken
against those who will be found involved in creating any artificial crises of
essentials and manufacturing, selling and possessing of adulterated and
substandard foods.

He told the meeting that Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has
already started selling essentials in open markets in the city for keeping
the essentials’ prices stable ahead of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan and
it will continue throughout the holy month.

The state-run trading organization has been selling goods through
dealers at five important city points- Shaheb Bazar Zero Point, Bhadra
crossing, Railway Gate crossing, Nawdapara crossing and Luxmipur Crossing
since last week.

The dealers are selling sugar at Taka 47 per kg, edible oil at Taka 85
per liter and lentil at Taka 44 per kg.

TCB Regional Officer Protap Kumar told the meeting that they have
started selling different types of consumer goods including lentil, edible
oil and sugar at fixed prices the district including the city. Grams and
dates will be brought under selling activities within next couple of days.

He said 1,400 kilograms of consumer goods including 500 kilograms of
sugar and edible oil each and 400 kilograms of lentil have been allocated for
selling every day excepting Friday and Saturday.
