Hasan visits ailing actor ATM Shamsuzzaman

DHAKA, May 1, 2019 (BSS)- Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today visited ailing veteran actor ATM Shamsuzzaman at Asgar Ali Hospital in the city.

The Ekushey Padak-winning actor was put on life support at 3pm yesterday following deterioration of his condition, family sources said.

Dr Hasan, also the publicity and publication secretary of the ruling Awami League, went to the hospital this evening and spent some time beside him.

He also talked to the attending doctors about his treatment and prayed for his early recovery.

The family sources said Shamsuzzaman underwent a gallbladder surgery on Saturday (April 27) and kept under a 72-hour observation.

He was hospitalised on Friday (April 26) after suffering from indigestion.

Shamsuzzaman began his career as a comedian and he also wrote over 100 stories, and film scripts. The actor was born on September 10, 1941 in Noakhali.

He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2015 while he won Bangladesh National Film Awards five times for his roles in “Dayee Ke?” (1987), “Madam Fuli” (1999), “Churiwala” (2001), “Mon Bosena Porar Table E” (2009) and “Chorabali” (2012).

His movie career started in 1961 as the Assistant Director in “Bishkonna” while he first gained popularity as an actor through Amzad Hossain’s “Noyonmoni” (1976).
