Cyclone Fani likely to intensify further, barrels northwestwards

DHAKA, May 1, 2019 (BSS) – The very severe cyclonic storm “Fani” over West-
central Bay and adjoining area moved northwestwards over the same area and it
is likely to intensify further and move in a north or northwesterly
direction.

It was centred at 9 am today about 1260 km southwest of Chattogram Port,
1210 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar Port, 1125 km southwest of Mongla Port and
1130 km southwest of Payra Port, a special weather bulletin of the Met office
said this morning.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been
advised to keep hoisting the distant warning signal number two.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 74 kms of the storm centre is about 160
kph, rising to 180 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain very rough near
the cyclone centre.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been
advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further
notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.

Earlier the met office said in its another weather bulletin that mild heat
wave is sweeping over the regions of Faridpur, Rajshahi, Ishwardi, Mongla,
Jashore and Chuadanga and it may abate by 6 pm today.

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is
likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet
divisions during the period while weather may remain mainly dry with
temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, the release added.

Day temperature may fall slightly by 6 pm today, it continued.
