Monnujan for building welfare-oriented working environment

DHAKA, April 30, 2019 (BSS) -State Minister for Labour and Employment
Begum Monnujan Sufian said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has
been working for the welfare of the workers as it has been implementing a
number of welfare measures for them.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government is a labour-friendly one . . .
workers-owners-government will have to work together to build a welfare-
oriented productive system for the development of the country,” she said at a
press conference here today.

Monnujan Sufian announced a day long programme to mark the historic `May
Day’ tomorrow.

The minister said, like the previous years, the Labour and Employment
Ministry has drawn up two-day programmes to observe the Day at the state
level.

A colourful rally will be brought out from Dainik Bangla crossing at 7 am
and it will end in front of the National Press Club on Topkhana Road after
parading different city streets.

In observance of the day, a discussion will be held at Bangabandhu
International Conference Centre at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar at 4 pm tomorrow. The
discussion will be followed by a cultural function.

On May 2, the ministry will arrange another discussion titled “The role of
owner, labour and government to protect the rights of labour in their work
place” at Jatiya Press Club VIP lounge at 3pm marking the May Day.

The state minister said the government has taken various initiatives for
the welfare of the workers. She said, the government has formulated the
“Bangladesh Labour Law (Amendment) -2018”, made trade union registration
process easy and brought amendment on personal and industrial security for
the betterment of labour.

She said the government has set up Bangladesh Workers ‘Welfare Foundation
and Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Fund for the welfare of large number of
workers and their families in both the institutional and non-institutional
sectors of the country. Besides, the meritorious children of the workers are
given opportunity for higher education, she added.

Ummul Hasna, secretary in charge, Mr. Syed Ahmed, additional secretary of
the ministry were present on the occasion.
